Great Warm-Up (WU) for aerobic track workouts, yet it's a difficult WU and would be inappropriate for a race-day.

*Weekly RunningDVD giveaway! We know that people are watching these Tuesday Tips and that's great, yet we'll all be better served if you and others will write questions/comments/observations in the comments area. I'll respond, then you may decide to respond to that response and pretty soon we'll have a much richer resource for us both. To that end, RunningDVDs.com will be giving away 3 DVDs each week to the first 3 people that comment on the newest "Tuesday Tips" video and become a fan of the RunningDVDs.com site. Simply post your comment below, become a fan and shoot me an email at [email protected] with your name and mailing address. I'll send you a free copy of Vol.1 or Vol.2 of Building a Better Runner, just specify which DVD you'd like. I look forward to your comments and to making Tuesday Tips a dialogue that helps us all.

Post here with any questions regarding the givaway.

Considering the relatively low stress of the exercises, the incorporation of movement in the frontal and transverse planes and the increased ranges of motion in the sagittal plane relative to running I think pre-season would be an ideal time to incorporate the aerobic work warmup for a HS runner, particularly if he/she hasn't done much ancillary work in the recent past.

Jay - assuming this is done during general base training as in your scenario above, how many days per week would you feel this is appropriate to maximize the benefit while allowing sufficient time for runs and other strength training in a busy summer schedule for a HS runner?

Hi Coach Jay, I sent you a e-mail with some information, I hope you got it. I love the Tuesday tips, thanks. My question is how much preventive warm-up is to much for race day? What would you have me do before a distance race for my warm up? Thanks!

I absolutely prefer the aerobic warm up when compared to the static warmup. We do a similar type of dynamic warmup at our high school, and it is much more effective. Although i have to say this seems to be a very elongated preparation period, would this be an every day thing or would some days be abreviated?

Question. Could this WU be used as part of a sound summer training program? Would a HS or collegiate runner benefit from this type of work in July in preparation for Fall XC races?
